Welcome to First Grade
Welcome to first grade!!! I am excited to begin this year with 14 new students all with anticipation for lots of learning.
As we settle into a new year, teacher and schedule. Here are some things that will help our year be successful.
First grade will begin taking spelling tests the week of Sept. 7. Words will be presented and practiced on Monday of each week and the final test will be on Friday. Students have a take home folder that should contain their spelling words on Monday; any important information given out that day and graded papers.
Students will also be bringing home each night a Kiwi bag with a book for practicing reading. I appreciate your help with the practice of the Guided Reading book. Reading makes readers. Practice reading aloud is so important. Reading aloud a book above your child’s reading level is also an important nightly practice.
Scheduled visits to the library will occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please be sure they return their library book each day. Initially, some books they check out may be above their reading level so this is an excellent opportunity to read aloud to them.
KIWI bag, take home folder and back pack need to be returned each day so your child is ready for the day.
Please do not hesitate to call or e-mail if you have questions or concerns about your child. Educating your child is a partnership and it is very important we work together. E-mail is firstname.lastname@example.org. Ph# 620-839-5203.
Thank you for sharing your child with me this year.
