Our junior high students have been busy in their Life 101 class to start the year with Mr. Dick and Mrs. Bogle!
They have already had the opportunity to help clean up and set up for our community’s Homecoming, give live speeches at more than 50 different local businesses for our school’s Flyer Fan Club, create resumes, learn how to fill out job applications, and begin working on their interview skills for different purposes they may encounter throughout life. They have even taken on a side project learning the basics of automotive wiring!
They now have the pleasure of learning from recently retired and former Thayer Flyer, Mrs. Betty Wheeler, who has volunteered her time to come in and teach a unit on finance. Students will be learning about economics, taxes, paycheck analysis, credit and debit cards, and many other important financial topics.
We are so thankful to have such a supportive community that is willing to share their time, knowledge, and experiences with our students. These opportunities allow our junior high students to learn practical skills that will benefit them long after they leave the classroom, and we are excited to continue finding ways to prepare them for life beyond school.

We were privileged to honor these three eighth grade volleyball players today: Emary Van Peursem, Maci Thornton, and Erin Kepley. They have been outstanding leaders for their team this season and we are so proud of them.

Our talented junior high tech students in Mr. Dick's class have designed and pressed a lot of awesome shirts themselves! We are incredibly proud of their creativity, hard work, and entrepreneurial spirit as they sell them to our community at ball games. Many of them have also been working on their 3-D modeling skills with some 3D printed projects including name tags, coaster sets, and signs. Thayer preschool and Senior citizens met for a Mother Goose Tea Party. Student recited 16 or more nursery rhymes and visited while enjoying refreshments. It is a great day when generational relationships are made!
