Twelve members of the Cherryvale Middle High School KAY Club attended the Area 2 KAY Regional Conference on November 1st at Northeast High School. The club received the Blue Award, recognizing their student leadership and service to their school, community, nation and world for the 2022-2023 school year. The Kansas Association for Youth (KAY) is a character-building, eadership training program program directed by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. This nationally acclaimed organization provides students an opportunity to learn to assume their citizenship responsibilities and to enrich their personalities through well organized programs. These programs emphasize four areas of service: school, community, nation and world. The theme for the 2023 Regional Conference was "Leadership Roundup"! This conference affords opportunities for student leaders and sponsors from neighboring clubs to share successes and challenges, as well as exchange ideas. Sessions in leadership training and organizational skills are also offered. These conferences inspire delegates to return to their clubs to challenge their local members. CMHS KAY members attending the Regional Conference were: Layne Harbers, Aaryn Wilson, Mason Bruggman, Ava Claxton, Maleigh Bovanizer, Jackson Dean, Dylan Tryon, Zaiden Rash, Savana Douthit, Madison McClelland, Cooper Dean, and Isabella Buckbee. Accompanying the group was Savana Debo, the clubs sponsor.

On October 25th, 102 CMHS KAY Club members participated in their annual fall community service project. Students raked leaves, pulled weeds from sidewalks, picked up trash, cleaned windows and did various other projects at the grade school, the public library, the train depot, the park and the downtown area. KAY Club focuses on team-building, leadership and service which is instilling a great sense of civic duty and pride in the young people of our community. KAY Club appreciates the partnership with the City of Cherryvale, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Cherryvale Beautification Committee. Special thanks to the Chamber for opening its doors for the members to use the restroom, the city for supplying window cleaner, Bumper to Bumper for supplying other window cleaning supplies, USD 447 Maintenance Dept for supplying trash bags and gloves, and USD 447 Transportation Dept for providing buses and shuttling kids to the various locations around town.

CMHS students traveled to Caney today for the Reality U experience. Reality U is a life based simulation where students are assigned an occupation and work around the facility to explore the cost of living and and expenses that affect a family budget. Thank you Caney Valley Schools for partnering with USD 447 schools for this amazing opportunity. Two take always from today: 1) We have amazing kids. That was confirmed by the director of the Reality U program. 2) Students should be coming home with a better perspective of a family budget and hopefully a Thank you to parents. Go Chargers.
